The Global Cleantech Innovation Programme in Moldova (GCIP Moldova) is a program of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), implemented in the Republic of Moldova by the National Center for Sustainable Energy.
The aim is to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in emerging markets and developing economies to address climate and environmental challenges. GCIP supports startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with innovative clean technology ideas, helping them establish and expand robust business models. GCIP also strengthens entrepreneurial ecosystems and facilitates partnerships and networking between private and public actors to ensure the long-term sustainability of its interventions.
The GCIP Moldova program is developed to support businesses in Moldova in the clean technology sector in developing innovative solutions and expanding the market adoption of clean technological innovations. Existing SMEs and startups are supported by identifying creative entrepreneurs who will leverage their skills to grow their innovative ideas into fully developed technologies ready to enter national and global markets.
The objective of GCIP Moldova is to enhance institutional, market, and ecosystem capacities to support clean technology startups and strengthen the policy framework and mechanisms for technological innovation by SMEs. Through the main activities of the GCIP project, we are building a sustainable business environment conducive to clean technology innovation and entrepreneurship, aiming to identify the most promising startups and innovative SMEs, minimize the risks for selected companies, and connect them with potential investors, customers, and partners.
To support SMEs, GCIP Moldova brings about changes through two main interventions:
Direct support for SMEs offering innovative solutions;
Development and strengthening of innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems at the national level.
The GCIP Moldova approach creates a unique ecosystem that supports SMEs from the idea stage to actual business, providing competition-based business acceleration services for startups and SMEs with clean technology innovations.
The core activities of the project focus on developing entrepreneurial capacities and financial support in the process of re-technologizing the country's energy sector, offering a range of benefits to innovators participating in the program, such as access to mentoring, networking, financing, etc.
