Energy efficiency

Energy efficiency

Energy efficiency is the ratio between the achieved performance, services, goods, or energy output and a certain amount of energy used to achieve this result.

Increasing energy efficiency through technology investments is essential for high-energy intensity enterprises to compete internationally. The energy intensity of the Republic of Moldova, i.e., the gross energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product, is approximately 3.4 times higher than the EU average, indicating significant potential for improving energy efficiency.

To support these objectives, CNED promotes programs and policies that encourage energy efficiency in various sectors: transportation, public and private buildings, industry, etc.

In addition to energy efficiency programs in the public sector, CNED supports the launch of energy efficiency programs in the residential sector, such as:

  • Appliance Voucher Program;
  • Green House Program;
  • Modernization Program of the internal heating and hot water supply distribution system;
  • Creation of the Energy Efficiency Fund in the sector, etc.

These policies and programs are designed to help achieve energy efficiency and decarbonization goals in the Republic of Moldova, thereby contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change.
