EcoVoucher Program supports 5,802 more families in replacing old appliances with energy-efficient ones in the September session
12 September 2025 – An additional 5,802 families in the Republic of Moldova have the opportunity to replace their old appliances with new, energy-efficient ones through the EcoVoucher Program. The vouchers were distributed as part of the 5th session, which began today, 12 September, and will run until 29 September 2025.
The vouchers are automatically allocated to beneficiaries based on eligibility criteria and data registered on the platform compensatii.gov.md. In this session, 1,151 vouchers were allocated to people aged over 63, while 4,651 vouchers reached families with minor children. Among these, 2,593 vouchers went to families with two children, 693 to families with three children, and 1,365 to families with four or more children.
“So far, we have successfully operationalized all necessary processes to make the vouchers accessible to beneficiaries. The program directly supports households and promotes the acquisition of high-performance, energy-efficient appliances. The impact of the program is immediate and measurable: beneficiary households reduce their energy bills through a significant decrease in electricity consumption, resulting in cumulative savings for these families’ budgets,” said Ion Muntean, Director of the National Centre for Sustainable Energy.
The EcoVoucher Program aims to support households vulnerable in terms of energy, reduce energy consumption, and lower household expenses. Each voucher is worth 6,000 MDL and can cover up to 70% of the cost of a new appliance. Vouchers can be used during the active session period in the network of partner stores, which provide free delivery and collection of old equipment for recycling.
“This program helps families lower their bills right away and makes their homes more comfortable. At the same time, it reduces pressure on Moldova’s energy system. That’s why Norway supports EcoVoucher - it brings direct, visible benefits to people while also serving the bigger goal of energy security.” noted Kamilla H. Kolshus, Chargé d’Affaires of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Chișinău.
EcoVoucher works because it brings everyone to the table - government, international partners, and private companies. The result is simple: thousands of families can afford appliances that use less energy. Each round proves that cooperation delivers real change for people.”, stated Christian Borchard, E4M Component Manager at GIZ.
Within the program, beneficiaries can purchase refrigerators (including models with integrated freezers, energy classes A, B, C, and D) and washing machines of class A. Appliances included in the program meet energy efficiency criteria and European Conformity (CE) standards, allowing them to reduce energy consumption, thus contributing to environmental protection.
To date, approximately 35,000 families have benefited from vouchers for major appliances. In the 2025 edition, funded by Norway, 20,520 vouchers were redeemed.
More information about the program, the list of partner stores, and the steps for using the vouchers is available at www.ecovoucher.md, and eligible households can check voucher availability on the platform verificarevoucher.cned.gov.md.
This EcoVoucher program round is implemented by the National Centre for Sustainable Energy through the “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies for Moldova” (E4M) project. E4M is implemented by GIZ together with the Government of the Republic of Moldova, financed by the German Government and co-financed by the European Union, Norway, and Denmark. The current edition of the Home Appliance Voucher Program is financed by Norway.
